WHAT WE DO
Sanctuary Trust provides accommodation and support to men who have reached a crisis in their lives and need help to get back into society.
The men that we support can have a range of issues: Homelessness; economic hardship; domestic violence; mental health issues; family / relationship breakdown or addiction issues, be it gambling, drugs or alcohol.
We open our doors to people whose lives are falling apart, and then help them put their lives back together again.
WHERE WE DO IT
SANCTUARY HOUSE
Located in the heart of St Aubins village, Sanctuary house is the main hub of the Trust and was its first property . This is where residents one will start their journey with Sanctuary Trust. The property it is a former guest-house and provides accommodation for ten men on a full time basis.
Sanctuary House is staffed 24 hours a day and is home to the main office for the organisation. It is here that the residents will be assessed and where their initial problems will be discussed and addressed and is where the residents can benefit from the counselling services provided by the Trust. Once the residents are able to do so they will either move to our second property, Sanctuary Lodge or on to their own accommodation.
SANCTUARY LODGE
This is our second property, located at Beaumont and is an extension of the L’Hermitage development. Its existence is only possible due to the incredible generosity of a local developer, to whom we are extremely grateful.
The Lodge provides accommodation to 14 men and is a much more independent facility, developed with the aim of being a ‘halfway house’, to assist residents eventually returning to independent accommodation within wider society. The house does not have a permanent staff presence although there is regular staff input but the men are free to come and go as they please – historically the residents here will be working or involved in schemes that may lead to paid employment.
No time limit is set for men in either of the house managed by Sanctuary Trust. Each man will have his own individual problems and issues and initial assessments will determine the level of support necessary. Inevitably some will take longer than others but all residents know that Sanctuary Trust does not provide lasting, permanent accommodation and the outcome being worked towards is independent accommodation in a community setting. But after men have left, support can and does continue.

HOW WE ARE FUNDED
Sanctuary Trust is an independent, self funding, registered care home and charity. We have two properties that have a joint running cost of approximately £300,000 per year and this cost equates to £35 per resident, per day.
We generate a small amount of income through rent from residents who are in employment and from social security housing benefits from those residents who are unemployed. We receive no annual financial support from the Government of Jersey and as such we operate with a funding gap, or budgetary deficit, which is well over £140,000 per annum.
For this reason we depend entirely on the generosity of our community and generate income through donations and charitable event which we hold on a regular basis. All donations are gratefully received whether large or small and all go towards an essential service that aids and assists homeless people in Jersey.

SLEEP OUT FOR SANCTUARY TRUST
20 NOVEMBER 2021
A big thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Sleep Out. Early indicators show that we have raised over £6,500, which will go a long way towards funding out outreach programmes and towards the general running costs of keeping this fantastic charity going.
Thank you so much to our sponsors Ocorian, not forgetting Vini from Grace Trust and Jamey Exton for the music, Will Gorman and Coopers & Co for the nourishment, the Reverend Mark Bond for our bedtime story and to JMD Secure and Island Fire Extinguishers for keeping us safe.
Most of all, thank you to those who made the effort to experience what you were so kindly raising money for!
The camaraderie and community spirit shown burned bright and kept us that little bit warmer.
I can not thank the team Sanctuary Trust enough. They took me in at the lowest point in my life and with their help and support I am now back on on my feet and living independently.
Sanctuary Trust took me in and helped me get my life back on track. It is an essential service that the island desperately need and I urge everyone to help and support this charity.
Without Sanctuary Trust I don know what I would have done. They were a huge help at a desperately low point in my life.
